Samoa A out of competition with loss to Brumbies A on last pool game

By Va’aelua Aloi Alesana, Team Manager

APIA: TUESDAY 18 MARCH 2014: Samoa A is out of the PRC 2014 Championships round having lost their final Pool match of to the Brumbies XV 18-17.

“It’s seen as one of the best games by our team in the whole tournament,” says Team Manager Va’aelua Alesana whose game report follows.

“As in previous games, we played really well in every area of the game. The score opened with an opportunity for points for Samoa A from penalty kicks on the 2nd minute and 4th minute of the game, but unfortunately we missed both.

“A penalty kick conversion to Brumbies XV at the 28th minute gave them the lead 3-0, then extended to 8-0 when Brumbies XV scored a try on the 31st minute of the game.

“Samoa A put their first points on the board from a try under the sticks from Tofatu Solia, converted by Faialaga Afamasaga. Brumbies XV then fought their way back and scored an unconverted try on extra time of the first half. Halftime score 13-7 to the Brumbies XV.

“Samoa A scored the first point of the second half from a converted try to Faalemiga Selesele on the 45th minute. Faialaga Afamasaga then added another 3 points from a penalty kick 17-13 to Samoa A at 51 minutes. It was a tussle from then on with Samoa A displaying a well structured defence line. “This was until one of our props went down with injury and Brumbies capitalized on this with a try on the corner taking the score to 18-17. We were given a final chance to win the game with a penalty kick on the 76th minute, but again missed. Samoa A fought back with force but unfortunately the score remained the same to the end.

“We are so unfortunate to have lost two very close games that would have put Samoa A in a better position on the points table thus securing a place in the final of the PRC 2014 competition.

“However the Management and players have taken all the positives from this great opportunity given by the IRB to develop our local talent and get a taste of rugby at another level. We are so grateful for the chance given to our local players to compete at this level with Super XV franchises.

“E fa’amalulu atu ise taumafaiga ua taunu’u iai le fa’amoemoe ole Samoa A. Ae sa tu’u uma iai le malosi ile pulega ma le au atoa mo se fa’aiuga lelei o lenei tauvaga PRC 2014. Fa’afetai tele mo le tapuaiga ma alofa le Atua fa’alaolao le ala ao sauni folau atu le tatou au i laufanua osi o tatou atunu’u.

“IRB are yet to confirm our departure details now that we have exited the tournament earlier than expected. I will advise you as soon as we get confirmation regarding departure from Sydney and arrival into Samoa.

Manuia tele le aso!
