APIA: TUESDAY 28 JANUARY 2014: Defendant Leslie Maria Kolhase today through counsel entered pleas of not guilty to two counts of manslaughter and two counts of negligent driving causing death.
The Supreme Court order prohibits publication of details given by Police so far about the matter.
The matter was adjourned to 21 April for trial.
When the trial begins orders issued by Chief Justice Patu Falefatu Sapolu last week become invalid.
The orders are:
“The news media is prohibited from publishing alleged facts of the accident claimed by the police to have resulted in the death of both deceased and which led to the charges now laid against the accused.
“This, however, does not apply to fair and accurate reporting of the charges laid by the police, the entering of a plea by the accused to these charges, the setting down of this case for trial in the event of a not guilty plea, or the fact of any adjournment. The above orders are only to remain in force until the commencement of the trial, that is, if there is to be a not guilty plea.”
