APIA: MONDAY 25 AUGUST 2014: The Apia rugby Union has remained unbeaten in all 14 matches to win the National Provincial Championship (NPC) tournament at the Apia Park last Saturday.

In the finals, Apia defeated the A’ana Union 30 – 27.

According to Tuiloma Pule Lameko, President of the Samoa Rugby Union, NPC is the second highest level of competition within Samoan rugby union and is a stepping stone for the local players into the international arena.

“The purpose of this seasonal tournament was to select players to play for the Manu Samoa team and also represent Samoa during the season with other International teams,” he said before presenting the Cup to Apia.

The Apia Union under 20 also won the NPC tournament for Under 20s defeating Siumu Union by 13-3.

The National Provincial Cup was established and organized by the Samoa Rugby Union and has been the backbone of local players in each Union.

Falealili Union was last year’s competition but did not do well in this year’s tournament.

Apia Union is made up of Vaiala, Moata’a, Apia, SCOPA, Fagali’i and Fa’atoia rugby teams.
