APIA, SAMOA – THURSDAY 15 DECEMBER 2016: The Attorney General, Lemalu Herman Retzlaff is appealing Judge Fepuleai Ameperosa Roma’s decision that acquitted the Director of the National Prosecution Office earlier this week.

Lemalu said “the independent prosecutor of the Chang case has received and considered the decision. He holds a strong view that the decision must be appealed.”

“I have the utmost respect for learned District Court Judge Roma, but I must and will now lodge this appeal in the interest of justice and the rule of law,” said Lemalu.

He said the final analysis will then be in the hands of the Court.

The suspended Director of the National Prosecutions Office, Mauga Precious Chang was acquitted of three traffic related charges early this week.

The charges were negligent driving causing injuries, the alternative charge of dangerous driving and failing to stop and ascertain.
