APIA: TUESDAY 20AUGUST 2013: After 25 years Samoa is back in the Miss World competition.
It has left our contestant, Penina Maree Paeu excited, honoured and humbled.
Crowned Miss Samoa for Miss World in June, Penina will be amongst 120 contestants from around the globe.
“I am extremely excited to represent Samoa before the world, this opportunity is such a huge honour and blessing for me,” she said.
Yesterday she met with Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sa’ilele Malielegaoi.
Penina spoke of her love for Samoa hence her intention to use the opportunity of being a Miss World contestant in Indonesia to promote the country.
“Miss World Samoa is an avenue to promote and empower our precious nation and Penina will do us proud, “ said Teeva Matafai, Miss World Samoa Director.
Teeva said Penina has a “strong focus on community engagement and philanthropic work.”
The beauty queen is doing charity work at the children’s hospital at Tupua Tamasese Meaole Hospital with the Samoa Victim Support Group (SVSG) before departure on Friday for Indonesia.
Penina hails from the villages of Vaigaga, Fagaloa,Faleula, Samatau, Lalomalava, Sapunaoa, Asaga and Faga Savaii.
The last time Samoa entered the Miss World pageant was 1988.
“After more than two decades we are returning graciously to represent our home nation of Samoa once again,” said Teeva.
Penina will be travelling with her mother to Indonesia where the Miss World competition will begin on the 3rd September with the finale on the 28th September.
