AUCKLAND: Friday 7 September 2012: Four changes have been made to Bluesky Manuiti’s line up from Wednesday match, for tomorrow’s match (Saturday) against Otahuhu Rugby Club. The changes are Alpha Vaifale, Oka Fauolo, Joe Fruean, and Sipaia Fetu starting at number 12.
Bluesky Manuiti may have lost their first match against East Tamaki Rugby Club, but have benefitted from two scholarships offered by East Tamaki Rugby football Club for next year.
The two scholarship recipients are Tavita Fono from Vaie’e Primary School who plays wing and Palako Togia of Moataa Primary School.
Bluesky Manuiti, Team Manager, Leaana Tafesilafa’i Lauvi, says, awarding a scholarship for the players is a bonus. “It’s all part of our tour, but our main aim is for the children to get international exposure in rugby at this age.” “We would like to deliver and drive the government’s initiative through the Ministry of Education, Sports and Culture, to develop sport in the Primary level.”
Tavita and Palako are thrilled of the opportunity but have yet to commit. “We have to go back to Samoa, and talk to our par 7 September 2012: ents, but at this stage we are not very sure.” East Tamaki Rugby Football has yet to give more details on the scholarship offer only that Eric Rush has given instructions to select potential players for their scholarship program.
Meanwhile, Bluesky Manuiti lost in a close hard fought match against East Tamaki Rugby Club 14-17. The boys were forced to play in a match, that they were not trained to contest areas, such as the breakdown, ruck, maul, and line outs. “The Inter Primary School Competition held in Apia for this age group, was not contested, and we weren’t informed that this will be the case in New Zealand” says Head Coach Kaleuati Tusi.
“I take my hat off to the boys, they played their hearts out, and everyone knows that although they lost but they won the hearts of the Samoan Community.”
Bluesky Manuiti’s second match tomorrow (Saturday) will be against Otahuhu Rugby Club at 11.30am Aorere Park.
