APIA, SAMOA – 02 FEBRUARY 2019: Upcoming boxing sensation, Jai Opetaia hopes to defend his title in Samoa in June this year.

“We are looking to have a fight here in June, well there’s no specific day locked in but hopefully in June we can come here and defend the belt,” said Jai Opetaia.

Opetaia is in Samoa as part of his preparations in his upcoming fight against Bilal Laggoune on the 22nd March in Belgium and he hopes that this will create a lot of interest in Samoa.

“This is my second time in Samoa and after my fight in June we should be coming back a lot more where things will progress to bigger and better boxing camps,” he said.

Opetaia hosted boxing clinics for the children at former All Blacks gym Tuigamala Vaaiga Tuigamala’s Plantation Gym this week.

“Today is about kids. We’re just coming here to have training with the kids and have a laugh and enjoy, so it’s actually exciting fir them to see what we got for them in the bag,” said Opetaia.

“It’s just fun, it’s good to see the kids get a kick out of it and hopefully guide them to good direction, because it’s very easy to get off track.”

He also plans to have training camps in Samoa in the future.
