China hands over cars and sports equipment to Samoan Government

APIA, SAMOA – TUESDAY 15 MAY 2019: The Pacific Games Office has taken delivery of 48 containers of sports equipment, fireworks and vehicles to be used during the Games in July.

The containers were presented by China’s Ambassador Chao Xiaoliang’s to Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi last week.

“Today, we celebrate another wonderful partnership between our two Governments,” said Tuilaepa.

The shipment included world class sports equipment to be used for 14 sports as well as fireworks for the Opening and Closing ceremonies and 87 vehicles which will be used for visiting Heads of State and Ministerial delegations as well as the transport of athletes during the Games.

“They will improve the performance of our current and future stars – our athletes, coaches, umpires and all the talent required to develop sports. Samoa is now fully equipped with the right equipment and will be winning gold,” said Tuilaepa.

Apart from these materials, more than 200 Samoan athletes and 30 chefs are now in China for training.

“Ten (10) Chinese dance teachers are in Samoa training performers to get ready for the mass games to be shown in the opening and closing ceremonies,” said Ambassador Ambassador Chao Xiaoliang in presenting the containers.

“Over 200 Chinese and Samoan engineers and workers have been working day and night, shoulder to shoulder, for the timely completion of construction and renovation of sports facilities where the Games will be held.”

“Today, I am happy to officially hand over the assistance materials to the Samoan side, which is an embodiment of the profound friendship between the two governments and peoples.  In conclusion, I wish the 2019 Pacific Games every success,” he said.
