Dangerous prisoner denies attempted murder charge

APIA, SAMOA: WEDNESDAY 25 MAY 2016: Notorious prisoner Lauititi Tualima has pleaded not guilty to the charge of attempted murder.

Lauititi is charged with co-defendant Filipo Poasa in relation to the alleged assault of a Chinese business man at Vaitele –uta 24 April 2016 when the 2 defendants escaped from the Tafa’igata prison around Easter week, and they stole $2,600 worth of goods from the victims shop.

They are also charged with assaulting a police officer, Tapasu Tuala on the 25 April 2016.

Lauititi denied the charge while Filipo has pleaded a guilty plea.

Filipo is also charged with causing serious bodily harm to which he denied.

The businessman, according to the police report, received serious injuries to his head, and was only saved by the bluntness of the machete used on him.

Lauititi is described by police as dangerous and every time he escaped, an incident happened. He is the suspect in the assault of a female employee at the airport tower, and the rape of a tourist at Tiavi.

He has escaped from prison several times and the last time he did, some inmates reportedly attacked him ‘for giving the prisoners a bad name’.

Lauititi and Filipo will again appear in Court next Monday.
