Differences with spouses led to two suicides

APIA: THURSDAY 21 MAY 2015: The Ministry of Police spokesperson Su’a Muliaga Tiumalu has confirmed that the reason behind the two suicides last week, were differences between the deceased and their spouses.

Despite both incidents being confirmed as suicide, Su’a said investigation into the Fagalii-uta suicide of a 25 year old police officer still continues.

Asked to elaborate, Su’a said there Police have been given information that needed to be checked out.

Su’a said a post mortem will be carried out to determine the actual cause of death.

“The deceased and his wife had differences and his wife, who is also a police officer, thought he had gone to bed,” said Su’a

It was not until she went into the room that she found her husband dead, said Su’a.

“He used a belt to tie his neck to the windows,” said Su’a.

The deceased has served in the ministry for about 05 years.

The other suicide incident at Falesi’u was reported to Faleolo police outpost by the mother-in-law of the deceased at 6.00am on the 16th May 2015.

The deceased is a 45 year old male, married with four children.

According to Su’a, the deceased hung himself from a cocoa tree.

Again, Su’a said it was differences between the husband and his wife that drove the deceased to end his life.
