Ele Opeloge bows out at 6th place
LONDON OLYMPICS: 06 August 2012: Team Samoa’s best Olympics medal hope, weightlifter Ele Opeloge has settled in sixth place as she bowed out earlier today (Samoan time) at 155kg as the bar continued up to 166kg in a fierce competition between the Chinese and Russians.
The Commonwealth champion had not looked in her best in the initial Snatch section of the 75kg+ competition here in London. Initially, her starting attempt listed on the board would be at 122kg. However she came out earlier in the round and lifted 117kg then failed to raise her two remaining attempts at 122kg.
The Russian and Chinese lifters who won the Snatch competition with 151kg (World Record) and 146kg respectively still yet to start their lifts up at 175kg.
China’s lifter raised a new Olympic Record for the Snatch of 146kg before Russia’s champion superseded further with a new world record of 151kg!!
Unfortunately, Ele has been unsuccessful with her third attempt at 155kg in the Clean & Jerk. Her Competition Total will therefore be 267kg. In the last Olympics, Ele was only a kilo away from the Bronze medal. The final results:

Team Samoa’s Emanuele Fuamatu maintained 17.78m as his official Shot put throw in the tough Men’s event. The top 12 throwers go through to the Final later tonight.
Our team’s young powerhouse is registered at 35th out of the 40 competitors, finishing ahead of Iceland, Albania, Canada, Ukraine and China.
