Environment CEO Wins Media Friendly Award

APIA, SAMOA – MONDAY 06 MAY 2019: The Chief Executive Officer of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE), ‘Ulu Bismarck Crawley is the recipient of the Samoa Alliance of Media Practitioners for Development (SAMPOD) Media Friendly Award.

Ulu was voted by the majority of media practitioners as the most media friendly Head of a Government Ministry in providing information to the media.

The other two CEO’s nominated were Faimalomatumua Mathew Lemisio, the Electoral Commissioner and the Regulator, Lefaoali’i Unutoa Fonoti.

The award was initiated by SAMPOD established 6 years ago, offering assistance through training to journalists.

Also honoured were several media practitioners selected by both local and regional senior journalists who play an active role in the development of the local media.

SAMPOD founding member, Lagipoiva Cherelle Jackson-Anderson said the awards were not only an attempt to acknowledge existing challenges but to motivate journalists and the media achieve higher professional standards.

Best Editorial Award – Mataeliga Pio Sioa, Newsline

Best Climate Change Reporting Award – Sapeer Mayron, Samoa Observer.
