APIA, SAMOA: FRIDAY 22 JANUARY 2016: The 3 year old boy that fell off a traveling van last Saturday is recovering slowly at the Tupua Tamasese Meaole hospital, and police have charged his father with negligent driving causing injuries.

This was confirmed by the Ministry of Police spokesperson, Inspector Maotaoalii  Kaioneta Kitiona.

Maotaoalii said the boy is recovering well after being unconscious for a few days since the incident.

He was asked why the boy’s father who was driving the van was charged when it was the mother that was with the boy at the back of the van, but Maotaoalii said that under the law the father was the one operating the van.

The incident happened at around 10.30pm Saturday 16th January at Siusega when a family traveling from Aleisa to Siusega realised the young boy was not in the car with them.

Maotaoalii said the police reports say the boy was taken to the hospital by two young men who found the boy lying on the road.

The child was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) where his head injuries were monitored.
