Christchurch Womens Team winners of the womens division of the 31st Vailima Marist International Sevens in Apia today

APIA, SAMOA – SATURDAY 16 FEBRUARY 2019:  Tabadamu from Fiji and Christchurch Canterbury have scooped the championship titles in the finals of the Marist St. Joseph International Rugby 7s Tournament this afternoon.

Played at the ACP Stadium, Lotopa, Tadamu defeated the Samoa Rugby Union Sevens champion Tamauli from Salelologa 20 to 10.

Although losing in the finals, Tamauli put on an impressive performance and left a message that they are a team to be reckoned in future having been one of the newest teams on the local sevens circuit.

In the Womens division, Christchurch proved too strong beating Apia Maroons 18-0 in the finals.

Christchurch also beat defending champions, Auckland Samoa in the semis.

One of the impressive teams of the tournament was the team from Falealili, Satalo who made it to the Plate final and succumbed to an experienced BBE Vaiala outfit 30-0.

This year’s tournament is labeled as the best ever since the inception of the Marist St. Josephs  International Sevens 31 years ago with quality overseas teams and players competing and lifting the standard and quality of competition.
