APIA, SAMOA: FRIDAY 04 SEPTEMBER 2015: Five young girls under the care of the Samoa Victim Support Group (SVSG) at Tuanaimato will display their sports potential during the 5th Commonwealth Youth Games 2015 as weightlifters for Samoa.
Seeking self confidence and hope in sport, the five girls according to Samoa Weightlifting Federation Coach Tuaopepe Jerry Wallwork, have shown great strength during training.
“They are the only girls in the weightlifting team,” said Tuaopepe.
The coach is proud to have the girls onboard and he believes they have the potential to win Samoa medals.
Tuaopepe said his team is ready and have prepared well for the games.
“I do not want to predict anything but the team has potential to win medals,” he said.
The female weightlifters are Frida Tau, Anita Seumanutafa, Saofaialo Jim, Penina Toa and Seko Isaia.
In a brief ceremony this morning, the Government congratulated Team Samoa and wish them well in next weeks competition.
Prime Minister Tuilaepa Lupesoliai Sailele Malielegaoi challenged them to bare in mind where the games are held.
“Its not good for others to come and win here while you own the land,” challenged the Prime Minister.
Tuilaepa said it won’t be and easy encounter with other countries team.
He made references to the recently returned special Olympics team who returned with many medals last week.
Team Samoa is competing in 9 sports that include tennis, archery, weightlifting, athletics and rugby.
The 5th Commonwealth Youth Games will official open at Apia Park on Saturday 5 September.
