Four dead, woman seriously injured in traffic accident

APIA: WEDNESDAY 14 AUGUST 2013: Four people are confirmed dead after a traffic accident yesterday at Aleipata District, the eastern part of Upolu Island.

A fifth victim, a woman, was rushed from Lalomanu District Hospital at Aleipata to Tupua Tamasese Meaole Hospital in Apia by Samoa Fire & Emergency Service Authority (FESA) at 5.45pm yesterday.

“She was seriously injured and unconscious when we uplifted her from there,” Assistant Commissioner, Operations, Seve Tipa Laupe said.

Her village listed with the authorities is Vaimoso.

The deceased are three men and a woman, Seve said.

That’s the information Police gave them, he said.

Their village is listed as Saleimoa, a village on the northwest coast of Upolu.

The deceased are believed to have been visitors from Australia, New Zealand and the United States.

Details about the accident from Police cannot be obtained at this time.
