APIA, SAMOA – MONDAY 02 JULY 2018: The legacy of one of Samoa’s longest-serving patrons of rugby, the late La’auli Alan Grey, the Grey Investment Group (GiG) will now be the Major Sponsor of the Manu 15s.
The multi-year sponsorship arrangement is with one of the largest family-held investment groups in the region, the Grey Investment Group (GiG).
The announcement was made by the Chairman of the Samoa Rugby Union, Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi with Mrs. Marina Grey representing GiG last Saturday.
“The SRU was formed in 1920 and in many ways, we have mirrored the journey of GiG,” said Tuilaepa.
“As custodians of our national sport of Rugby, our vision has always been to improve the lives and wellbeing of our people, through hard but fair play, success with discipline and a genuine camaraderie with our fellow players.”
The sponsorship announcement reaffirms the mutual journey between SRU and GiG and continued development of Samoa’s pool of talented players. This is reflected with the newly launched Alan Grey Cup which is the highest award for domestic franchises participating in the Super Nine competition.
The significant sponsorship investment by GiG to the national rugby body will assist greatly with Samoa’s competitiveness on the world stage, in an enormously commercial environment against well-funded and well-resourced opposition.
The multi-million dollar deal will continue through to the end of 2020 and the Samoa Rugby Union is determined to ensure opportunities are maximised as a result of this partnership.
