New electric power station in progress

APIA: 18 Feb 2010: The building of a new power generating station is in progress and Cabinet this week approved the progress report on the work for the new Power Station at Fiaga, Aleisa. The new station has moved ahead amidst complaints from residents about the noise from the main power station at Tanugamanono with several cases of hearing disorders being reported and investigated the Ministry of Health.

Fiaga is an agricultural area far removed from the residential area.
A release from Cabinet said there are six main parts of the new project which the Electric Power Corporation (EPC) has scheduled to be completed together:
1. Building of the new Power House, installing of four new power generators and another three generators
relocated from Tanugamanono power station;
2. Building of new roads, installing of electricity and telephone lines for the new power house, and also landscaping
of the land intended for the building as well as fencing the whole property;
3. Drilling of a water well and the installing of water pipes and water tanks;
4. Installing of diesel tanks;
5. Installing of transmission lines from the new Fiaga Station to the Fuluasou Sub-station;
6. Building of a new Sub-station at Fuluasou.
Tenders are now open for building of the new Power House at Fiaga, and also the installation of power generators.
