APIA, SAMOA –TUESDAY 15 AUGUST 2017: Samoa and Indonesia have embarked on a trading partnership as part of enhancing the development relationship between the two countries.
The visiting Senior Advisor to Indonesia’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Djauhari Oratmangun told Talamua that direct trade with Samoa has long been in Indonesia’s thinking.
“We have some products especially food, drinks, and other commodities in the supermarkets and wholesales here but none are from Indonesia,” said Oratmangun.
Hence the idea of direct trade between Indonesia and Samoa.
He said he met with several Indonesian manufacturers and exporters in Jakarta last week to discuss the possibility of trading with Samoa.
“They have agreed on doing direct exportation with Samoa and there are also plans to make Samoa the hub of distribution for the South Pacific Islands,” said Oratmangun.
He also emphasized that it would be a two way trading and the Indonesia market is open to any products that Samoa can export to Indonesia.
He is confident that through trading, there will be an increase in the awareness between the two countries and people.
“At the end of the day, the engagement between Indonesia and Samoa through trade and through people to people relationship will be much closer,” said Orantmagnun.
His Excellency is leading an envoy from Indonesia to discuss issues of development and partnership with Samoa.
The delegation had already met with Prime Minister Tuilaepa Lupesoliai Sailele Malielegaoi in New Zealand last week and other Cabinet Ministers yesterday.
Today, the delegation made a courtesy call on His Highness the Head of State, Tuimalealiifano Va’aleto’a Sualauvi 11.
