APIA, SAMOA – TUESDAY 01 NOVEMBER 2016: Sharing the same biblical values, and aspirations on international issues are two of the core factors in the strong diplomatic ties between Israel and Samoa.

This was echoed by Israel’s new Ambassador Designate to Samoa, His Excellency Dr. Itzhak Gerberg when he presented his credentials to His Highness the Head of State, Tui Atua Tupua Tamasese Efi this morning.

“Israel is an ancient nation rooted in the Holy Land of Israel, whose birth certificate is the Bible, and we are proud that Jewish values espoused by the prophets are centre to our shared human principles,” said Ambassador Gerberg.

Israel and Samoa’s diplomatic relations was established in 1977 and both countries hope to enhance their relationship to the highest level possible.

With Israel as the country chosen by God and Samoa being founded on God, His Highness and Ambassador believe Israel and Samoa are heading for better things.

“There is a pending visa agreement that Israel and Samoa have negotiated and are proposing to sign in the near future,” said His Highness.

Both leaders want to build durable partnerships to enhance cooperation in the development aspirations of both countries.

Ambassador Gerberg said the success of his small country is based on good and strong relationships with other nations, Samoa included.

He said his country, following 2000 years of exile and the holocaust, had successfully built an independent, democratic and flourishing state with a high level of public and social services while reviving its ancient Hebrew language.

“Despite a continued threat to our existence, Israel wishes to live in secure borders while enjoying real and lasting peace,” said Ambassador Gerberg.

“I will make every possible effort to strengthen the already existing friendly bilateral relations between our two countries while deepening our cooperation and people to people ties,” he said.

“Israel will be happy to share its experience with Samoa to build human capacity.”
