Legendary rugby player pleads not guilty to 7 charges

APIA: TUESDAY 28 JANUARY 2014: Manu Samoa legend Muliagatele Brian Lima, through counsel entered not guilty pleas to seven charges against him.

The case was adjourned from 13 January to yesterday for the Prosecution to finalise charges him.

Muliagatele pleaded not guilty to two counts of actual bodily harm, two counts of grievous bodily hard, being armed with a dangerous weapon, using threatening language and throwing an object.

Chief Justice Patu Falefatu Sapolu adjourned the matter to the week commencing 21 April for hearing. The defendant was remanded on continuing bail.

To avoid media cameras Muliagatele left the second-floor courtroom through a side door which leads down a ground floor exit with the help of Police officers, one of whom drove the defendant’s vehicle closer to the door to allow for a quicker departure.

The charges arose from a late night incident outside a nightclub where he allegedly assaulted his former wife and her date.
