Leulumoega Fou College Sweeps Skipper Tuna Schools Invitational Sevens

APIA, SAMOA – THURSDAY 04 OCTOBER 2018: Leulumoega Fou College completed a clean sweep taking the U19 Boys 7s Skipper Tuna Schools Invitational Champions Title in rainy conditions at the SRU Fields, Tuana’imato yesterday. This adds to their National Championship Title won earlier this year.

Palauli i Sisifo College from Savaii were crowned U19 Girls 7s Skipper Tuna Schools Invitational Champions avenging their loss to arch rivals Leulumoega Fou College in the National Championship earlier this year.

Before kick-off, a moment of silence was held in honour of Ms Victoria Malakai of Palauli College – Savaii who sadly passed away last week. Palauli College Girls 7s Team were to participate in the Skipper Tuna Schools Invitational Sevens Tournament, but due to the passing away of Victoria the team decided to stay and mourn the loss of their fellow team mate.
SRU sends their condolences and prayers for Victoria’s family and her beloved school, Palauli College – Savaii. Both SRU Fields 1 & 2 stood still in honour of Victoria.

The rainy and slippery conditions were tough for all the teams, but those who managed to adapt came out the winners and unearthed new talent in the form of the Boys U19 MVP: To’otai Amasone Ioane of Leulumoega Fou College. In the girls U19 MVP was Fualii Sile of Palauli i Sisifo College who both steered their respective teams to victory in the finals.

SRU thank the tournament’s main Sponsor – TradePac Samoa for making the Skipper Tuna Schools Invitational 7s possible. The trophies were handed to the teams by the Managing Director, Shyamendra Singh and the TradePac Samoa team.

The tournament was in association with the Ministry of Education, Sports and Culture (MESC), the Schools Rugby Union and the Secondary Schools Principals’ Association.
