APIA: TUESDAY 3 SEPTEMBER 2013: Damage caused by lightning caused widespread power cuts in the country yesterday afternoon.

Damage was caused to Fiaga Power Station, callers to Electric Power Corporation (EPC) were told yesterday soon after offices in town were plunged into darkness.

The diesel power station is the major supplier of electricity in Upolu Island.

Power returned to the capital after an hour after rapid repairs by workmen but was cut again around 7pm.

But for outlying suburbs and villages of Apia reports say the power was out nearly all night.

Reports from rural areas reported the same situation.

This morning EPC’s publicity section said a report of what happened yesterday is being compiled for management.

Engineers are involved.
