Long boats heats to kick starts 50th Independence
APIA: Wednesday 30 May, 2012: The first heat of the 50th Independence regatta kicks starts the celebrations when seven long boats will fight for a place in the finals next Tuesday 5 June 2012. The second heat is tomorrow and will be for local competitors as the two long boats from American Samoa go automatically to the finals next Tuesday.
Heat 1 includes Segavao 3 and Segavao 2 both from Siusega, Uila Emo fom Saoluafata, Lupe o le Soaga from Maagiagi, La o Samoa from Lepea, Le tolotolo o Tamauli from Salelologa and the Fetu o Moana from Faleu Manono.
The second heat is at 2pm Thursday 31st May where the Little Rina from Apia, Matamatagi 3 from Satitoa, Aleipata, Fetuao from Tiavea, Tava’esina from Salua Manono Tai, Tama o le Lava from Leauva’a, Telefoni o le Vainu’u from Faleu Manono and Manulele Tautala from Apolima will compete.
Ten longboats, including two from American Samoa will make the finals Tuesday next week.
The official Flag raising ceremony is on Friday 1 June.
