APIA: 24 Sept 2010: There’s one change made to the Manu Samoa Sevens team for Darwin, due to injury. Head Coach Stephen Betham says Tupou Sefo suffered from a “ham string” injury obtained during trainings. “The doctor and physiotherapist examined Tupou, and have found out that he is not in a condition to play and must take a rest.”
It is not known when Tupou will be back on the field, but his injury, led Coach Betham calling in Lei’a Saofaiga, who was the top –try – scorer during the NPC 15- a side tournament recently. “Initially Saofaiga was in the extended squad, and we are calling him back to the centre wing position.”
In Darwin, Samoa is leading pool A, with Papua New Guinea, Niue and Tahiti. In pool B Australia leads, with Tonga, Cook Islands and Vanuatu.
“The 2010 Oceania Sevens is not easy, and we are not underestimating any other teams” pointed out Coach Betham.
Manu Samoa Sevens team leaves Samoa early Saturday morning for the 2010 Oceania Sevens Tournament in Darwin Australia. Manu Samoa Sevens, the reigning champions is determined to defend its title.
“We would like to continue on from what we started early this year” Coach Stephen Betham said. “There are two more awards for this year we are looking forward to and like I said it’s not an easy task”.
