Alan Ah Mu

APIA: MONDAY 15 APRIL 2013: Member of Parliament, Levaopolo Talatonu appears in the District Court tomorrow morning to face a charge laid by Samoa Customs Services.

Levaopolo said he was charged as the head of Island Freight.

Customs alleges that his “customs agent” cleared a container of illegal whisky from the wharf that has been under Customs and Police investigations.

Levaopolo said he is not a customs agent.

“We’re a freight forwarder,” he said.

The MP said he will hold a media conference tomorrow.

How can a freight forwarder clear a container from customs? I thought Customs was suppose to do the clearing? Seems to me Customs need to take responsibility for their stuff up, after all they released it..lol

    • RICHIE 18 / 04 / 2013

Hi Brenda. Freight forwarder’s job is releasing the stuff to the client. Customs do the clearance. All the cargo can only be release once the clearance is done by Customs.

No container is allowed to leave the wharf without Customs clearance. All the documents are check by 3 local authorities before the container is out of wharf
