Manu Samoa captain Mahonri Schwalger leading the charge

APIA: 13 Match 2012: The Samoa Rugby Union has appointed a lawyer as its new Chief Executive Officer. He is it Fred Amoa. A SRU statement said that Amoa was selected out of a group of 8 very high caliber applicants who vied for the SRU’s CEO Post.

Amoa is a lawyer by occupation and had worked for the Attorney General’s Office in Samoa before he took up a legal post with the Forum Fisheries Organization in the Solomon Islands.

He will replace longtime CEO and former Manu Samoa Coach Su’a Peter Schuster. It is the first of the Unions keep leadership appointments following last years painful World Cup campaign where captain Mahonri Schwalger distributed a report that was critical of the management staff as well as how the money donated by the public was used.

The Samoa Rugby Union also says that it is finalizing the Jersey Naming Rights Sponsor for the Manu Samoa 7’s and Manusina 7’s for the next 4 year cycle which includes the 7’s Rugby World Cup to be held in Russia in 2013 and the Rio de Janeiro Olympics 2016.
