APIA: FRIDAY 7 JUNE 2013: Two boats ordered out of Samoa were inspected by Immigration and Customs officials upon arrival several months ago. But there were no guns on board then, an official said.
Entry permits were issued for the boats in March this year. An extension was granted when a leak developed in one of boats both of which were supposed to be research vessels.
The boats were towed to the closest village of Saoluafata where they anchored for some time.
An Immigration official said there was not enough evidence on board both boats to say that they were on a research trip.
Four of the crews are American citizens while two Canadians flew over to join them.
Last Saturday, the boats were escorted out to sea.
