APIA: THURSDAY 21 FEBRUARY 2013: No one has been charged over the death of a man last year at the Tokelau Island of Nukunonu.

Nukunonu’s village council has asked the New Zealand police for help in the matter.

The response was positive and New Zealand police will look at the information available to decide if it warrants their traveling to the island to investigate, said General Manager of Tokelau’s office in Apia, Jovilisi Suveinakama.

The deceased, a male in his late 20s-early 30s, reportedly died at a party in November last year, Mr Suveinakama said.

He said if a charge of murder is laid it will become a matter for the High Court of Tokelau, which sits in New Zealand and presided over by judges of that country.
