APIA, SAMOA: WEDNESDAY 10 FEBRUARY 2016: The Prime Minister is facing an Opposition candidate and his constituency will go to the polls next month after all.

Prime Minister Tuilaepa Lupesoliai Sailele Malielegaoi said last week that he will be unopposed.

His opponent is the son in law of the late Cabinet Minister who served three terms in the HRPP Cabinet, Toi Aukuso and was later jailed for life for his part in the murder of a Cabinet colleague.

Tu’ula Kiliri, an electrician by profession registered in the 2011 general elections to run against the Prime Minister but was disqualified as he failed to confirm that he was providing service to his village in the form of monotaga.

The Tautua Samoa Party leader, Palusalue Faapo II, says Tu’ula Kiliri has been nominated to run for his political party in the constituency of Lepā.

Palusalue also said their candidate is qualified after a sworn declaration before a lawyer and the Electoral Commissioner.
