Police capture one escaped prisoner with $10,000 talā

The One & One shop at Vailoa that was attacked by two men with machetes early Thursday morning

APIA, SAMOA – MONDAY 25 FEBRUARY 2019: Police have confirmed recovering $10,000 talā when they captured escaped prisoner Aniseko Vaelei in the weekend. The money is suspected to be part of $50,000 talā missing from the Chinese owned shop at Vailoa that was attacked by two men early last Thursday morning.

Samoa Police Service confirms investigation into the invasion and robbery at One & One shop at Vailoa, Faleata in the early hours 21 February 2019.

The preliminary investigation did not link the robbery to the two prisoners who have been on the run for more than a month.

With information from the public, the police investigation led to the capture of one of the escaped prisoners, Aniseko Vailei. A total of SAT$10,000 talā was also recovered and police are now pursuing leads to locate the whereabouts of the other prisoner, Pati Chong Nee.

Since a large amount of cash was stolen from this business, Police is advising business owners to deposit their earnings in a bank on a daily basis.

Police welcomes any information that can assist their investigations into the robbery.
