Prime Minister XV to tour New Zealand announced

APIA: MONDAY 01 SEPTEMBER 2014: The Prime Ministers XV to tour New Zealand later this year was annnounced in the weekend at the close of the the inaugural Ministry of Education – Pacific In Union (MESC-PIU) interisland Primary School Prime Ministers Cup last Saturday where Savaii 1 team narrowly missed out on the Prime Minister’s Cup and the $2000.00 cash price.

The one week round robin format culminated in an exciting finals between Apia 1, selected from various Primary Schools in Apia and Savai’i well represented by Primary School players in Savai’i.

Apia 1 scored 3 unconverted tries to Savaii 1’s two tries and the final score was 15-12.

The Prime Minister, Tuilaepa Lupesoliai Sailele Malielegaoi, delivered an encouraging message to the future rugby players of Samoa.

“Commitment, fitness and consistency in trainings is the key to good rugby skills. This is where the development of rugby is- the grass roots level,” he said.

The Minister of the Ministry of Education Sports and Culture, Magele Mauiliu Magele added “there is a big improvement in skills, and set pieces compared to 2011 when the program first started in Apia, and I congratulate the Ministry, – teachers, coaches, PIU and the Samoa Rugby Union.” “The program will continue with the assistance and help from the Samoa Rugby Union.”

Formalities wrapped up with MESC Assistant CEO, Luatua Seumanutafa Epati announcing the Prime Minister XV that will tour New Zealand late this year.
