APIA, SAMOA – TUESDAY 13 NOVEMBER 2018: The 4,000 plus athletes and officials of next years’ Pacific Games will be staying in hotels.

This follows the signing of an Agreement today between the Government through the Samoa Tourism Authority (STA), the Samoa Hotels Association (SHA) and the Pacific Games Office (PGO) that confirms SHA’s commitment to solely accommodate participants of the Pacific Games next July.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Samoa Hotels Association, Faumuinā Alexandra Mauli is very positive that Samoa will provide the best accommodation during Pacific Games in 2019.

Faumuinā says hotels in Samoa have the numbers to accommodate the Pacific Games athletes and officials and they will provide the best.

“The industry is ready, we have the numbers and we are ready to do what is best for Samoa, in accommodating the athletes.”

Faumuinā is grateful to the government for taking hotel owners in to utilise the hotels as accommodation for the games. Samoa last hosted the Pacific Games in 2007 and the athletes stayed at school complexes turned into Games Villages.

“The purpose of the Agreement is to secure a maximum amount of hotel rooms in categories of participants attending the Pacific Games,” said Faumuinā.

“There are rooms at $195, $245 and deluxe rooms at $345. So basically officials and government representatives will be accommodated in our deluxe rooms.”

Samoa will be offering 26 sports in the 2019 Pacific Games, 16 compulsory sports, including: Athletics, Basketball, Boxing, Football, Golf, Judo, Rugby 7s, Swimming, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Tennis, Va’a (canoe), Volleyball (beach and indoor) and Weightlifting.
