APIA: TUESDAY 12 MARCH 2013: China’s Vice Minister of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China has praised the progress of economic development and efforts by the Samoan Government to help its people.
Mr. Liu Jieyi is on a goodwill visit to Samoa and met with the Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi yesterday as well as the Speaker of Parliament La’auli Polata’ivao Fosi and the Leader of the Opposition Palusalue Fa’apo 11.
Mr. Liu’s Department has been the organizer and host of Study Tours of China by the Pacific Islands politicians in the last two years in an effort to strengthen the relations and a deeper understanding of China.
The Vice Minister is accompanied by Mr. Ma Hui, the Director General of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) who overseas Pacific Islands affairs.
Last year, the Speaker of the Samoan Parliament, La’auli Polata’ivao Fosi, led a delegation of politicians and leaders from the Pacific that included Fiji, Tonga, FSM and Vanuatu. The Samoan delegation included the Leader of the Opposition Palusalue Faapo 11, former Speaker and Cabinet Minister Toleafoa Fa’afisi and Opposition MP Afualo Dr. Wood Salele.
The delegation toured Xiamen, the autonomous region of Ningxia and Beijing and were impressed by the development of solar power and alternative sources of energy and agricultural development that they saw application back home.
Mr. Liu said the Samoa China relations are very solid and he praises the unanimity of Government and the Opposition support of the relations.
Mr. Liu and his delegation travel on to Fiji before heading back to China.
