APIA: THURSDAY 10 JULY 2014: Samoa has selected a team for the World Special Olympics Games in Los Angeles in July next year.
Out of the 400 registered contestants, twenty one were selected after a four days of competition at the Apia Park.
Special Olympics Chairman Leta’a Dan Devoe said during the closing ceremony today, that some of the team members had already won gold in past special Olympics.
He also said the early selection of the team will give them ample time to prepare for the games.
He did not identify the sports that Samoa would be represented at the Special Olympics but said a press conference would be called later.
Samoa Special Olympics was established in 2008.
The competition kicked off with the running of the Special Olympics Torch in Savai’i and Upolu for four days.
Leta’a acknowledged the support from Government, the Fire Emergency Services Authority (FESA), Police and families who participated in the event.
