APIA: 12 July 2010: Star Sevens forward Alafoti Faosiliva’s future with Samoa remains unclear as the Samoa Rugby Union awaits confirmation if the player can play for the Samoa Commonwealth Sevens team in Delhi in October.

Alafoti has signed a contract wth the Super XV franchise for the next season following the IRB Player of the Year Mikaele Pesamino’s signing to play league in Europe.

Alafoti’s father Fata Faosiliva said that the priority is for the national team as it is Samoa that has given prominence to his sons talent. “We need to do the right thing, to clear everything with the Samoa Rugby Union before Alafoti travels over,” he said.

Fata was also philosophical saying the money paid by Samoa maybe minimal but it maybe better if his sons move to professional rugby would not make him happy. But he was also supportive of his son’s decision as it means a better purse in the era of professional rugby.

Alafoti would be one of the few Samoans being contracted by South African teams for the upcoming Super XV competition.

Following Samoas winning the World Sevens title, New Zealand that Samoa has beaten six times last season, has buffed up its Commonwealth squad with the likes of Hosea Gear.

The two signings mean Samoa will have a different squad in Delhi come the October sevens tournament that New Zealand has won all the Commonwealth titles.
