APIA: FRIDAY 18 JULY 2014: Prime Minister Tuilaepa Lupesoliai Dr. Sailele Malielegaoi has accepted the resignation of suspended Assistant Police Commissioner Sala Uili Seaga who had been the head of the Tafaigata Prison.

Sala has resigned while the investigation against him and the Police Commissioner Lilomaiava Fou Taioalo has yet to be completed.

Complaints of corruption, nepotism, abuse of human rights were part of the investigation.

Tuilaepa in his weekly programme on Radio 2AP said Sala’s resignation has also ended the investigation against him.

A few months ago, Cabinet appointed a new Warden at Tafa’igata Prison as the prison and police services have been separated under an amendment to the 2013 Police Act.

Tuilaepa said the emphasis has always been placed on general policing and the needs of the Tafa’igata prison which were under the same ministry were generally ignored.

“We should look at rehabilitation programmes for prisoners,” said Tuilaepa.

Also addressed were the rights of prisoners to better hygiene and housing facilities and acknowledgment of their rights, said Tuilaepa.

According to Tuilaepa, as far as the former Assistant Police Commissioner Sala Uili Seaga was concerned, his case is closed and it will not be long before the decision on the suspended Police Commissioner will be delivered.
