APIA: Friday 22nd June 2012: The 25 year old teacher, Telesia Funa’i from Fausaga, Safata who was suspended following the death of her pupil for an alleged attack has been cleared by Court to go back to class and teaching.

The 25 year old was convicted and had her sentence suspended by Judge Vaepule Vaemoa Vaai today.

Judge Vaepule Vaemoa Vaai based his decision on the good reports about the teachers life and she was also a first offender. He stated that the defendant and her family had undergone stress since the death of the pupil 3 March this year.

However a postmortem found the cause of death was from a heart condition and the charge against the teacher was changed to that of assault.

Speaking outside Court after she was cleared, Telesia told Talamua that she was thankful to God for the result and promised to do her very best for the students when she gets back to work. “When I go to work, I will always keep in mind what has happened to me and will not do it again. I will now focus on using my talents as a teacher to help my students.”
