Tampering with evidence lands Senior Constable in prison

APIA, SAMOA: WEDNESDAY 15 July 2015: Senior Constable Atonio Tausili has been sentenced to five months imprisonment after the Court proves his involvement in tampering police evidence.

Tausili was co-charged with Constable Heta Wilson and Corporal Luisa Lotolau who were convicted and discharged.

The three police officers were all working at the Faleata Police outpost when they were called to attend to a case.

However, evidence from the case, which was marijuana were later disposed by Lotolau under the instructions of the two Senior Police Officers.

According to Court documents, Tausili instructed the disposal of the evidence and to ensure that it does not reach the next level.

The three were scheduled to be sentenced last month, however, one of the defendants disputed the summary of facts and the matter was adjourned for the three counsels to sort out the facts of the matter.

At the police press conference today, media officer Superintendent Su’a Muliaga Tiumalu corrected Tausili’s rank as a Senior Constable, not a Senior Sergeant as recorded during the court case.
