Turning the sea into drinking water on Manono Island

The home tailored supply for drinking water under the innovative project.

APIA: Friday 24 August 2012: Residents of Manono- tai island will have extra water supply when an innovative project that turns sea water to drinking water is launched on the island tomorrow.

The first ever Solar Desalination Plant (Carocel), is sponsored by the Apia Lions Club in partnership with Lions International and will be launched at 10.00 tomorrow.

The 40 Solar carocel panels will convert 40/200 litres or 8000 litres of seawater into 800 litres of drinking water daily.

The residents of the island rely on rainwater collected in tanks for their daily water supply.

Contractor for the project is CMN Transport Co Ltd in partnership with Wini Pacific (NZ LTD) and Absolute Filtration (NZ LTD).
