TV cameraman caught with 40 marijuana seeds at Faleolo International Airport

APIA, SAMOA: WEDNESDAY 15 JULY 2015: A TV1 cameraman, who went to cover the arrival of the Samoa Weightlifting team from the Pacific Games, was instead caught with drugs in his bag after the bag went under the security cameras at the Faleolo International Airport last Saturday.

Police spokesperson Superintendent Su’a Muliaga Tiumalu said the cameraman, Pati Tovio works for Samoa Quality Broadcasting Company or TV1 and was at the airport on Saturday to cover the return of the weightlifting team.

Pati was to be allowed in to film the team’s arrival on the tarmac but when his bag was scrutinized under the security scanners, a marijuana joint wrapped in a small coffee bag showed up.

“Airport authorities were informed and he was searched,” said Su’a.

The authorities found 40 seeds, 1 branch and 1 rolled marijuana joint on him, said Su’a.

The 43 year old from Tula’ele is charged with the possession of narcotics.

He signs in at the police office every Friday until his Court appearance 27 July 2015.
