APIA: THURSDAY 28 NOVEMBER 2013: Samoa has won a silver medal at the Commonwealth champs in Malaysia via Nevo Ioane in the 62kg. Ioane missed gold by 1kg.

“His last attempt for the clean and jerk of 156kg would have won him the gold medal,” says coach Tuaopepe Jerry Wallwork.

He cleaned the weight but just missed the jerk, says Tuaopepe.

“Nevo Ioane has a great chance of winning Samoa a Gold medal at next year’s Commonwealth Games,” he says.

This year’s Commonwealth champs are the largest ever in terms of the number of countries who’ve entered of 32.

Three of our lifters are set to compete tomorrow, Vanessa Lui (69kg), Mary Opeloge (75kg) and Toafitu Perive (77kg).

Three more compete on Saturday, Petunu Opeloge (94kg), Iuniara Sipaia (75+kg) and Tovia Opeloge (105kg).
