APIA, SAMOA – TUESDAY 15 NOVEMBER 2016: The Acting Prime Minister, Tuitama Dr. Leao Tuitama has confirmed the suspension of Acting Police Commissioner Samoa Mulinu’u Mulinu’u who was in charge when Commissioner Fuiavailili Egon Keil was arrested Monday this week.

Asked for the reason of the suspension, Tuitama said there were “some irregularity issues,” and Mulinu’u will be suspended as the investigation against him is in progress.

Mulinu’u has come to the end of his turn as Acting Commissioner taking turns on a monthly basis with three other senior officers.

“Under the law, when a suspension is issued, a commission of inquiry into the issues is the appropriate next move,” said Tuitama.

He also reassured the country that the problem within the Ministry of Police has “been settled.”

Assistant Commissioner Leiataua Fata Aviga is now the Acting Police Commissioner, and the only one holding the fort now, while Assistant Commissioner Fauono Tala Tapu is overseas on police business until 4 December 2016.
