Chamber of Commerce included in National Revenue Board

APIA, SAMOA – 28 JANUARY 2020: The President of the Chamber of Commerce has been included as a Board member of the National Revenue Board. Parliament yesterday passed the Amendment Bill to the Boards of Public Bodies 2020 to include the Chambers President or his representative along with the CEOs of government ministries such as the Ministry of Revenue, Attorney General and Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Labour and Ministry of Finance

The Minister of Finance Sili Epa Tuioti said the inclusion of the Chamber is important as it is a major body of private sector businesses that is working in close partnership with the government.

He said that the Chambers input in the thrust and design of the annual national budgets is important and the regular consultation and partnership needs to create an enabling environment for the private sector to grow.

One of the areas mentioned during the discussion of the amendment is the queries by the private sector of government’s abrupt decisions to declare public holidays to the detriment and negative impact on the private businesses production and output.
