APIA, SAMOA – 26 AUGUST 2020: All international travel to and from Samoa by plane are temporarily suspended as of today, except in exceptional circumstances approved by Cabinet.

Closing the country’s international borders also cancels the repatriation flight planned for Friday 28 August from New Zealand in the wake of new Covid19 cases there.

The amended State of Emergency orders also directs the National Emergency Operations Centre to look at ways to repatriate the Samoan scholarships students studying abroad.

This follows the death of the Samoan student, Eteuati Junior Eteuati, who was studying Engineering in Australia. The student is reported to have been homesick and had been calling home regularly before his death.
