Gagaifomauga No.3. voters go to the polls in by election

SAVAII – 28 AUGUST 2020: Voters of the Gagaifomauga No.3. Constituency started casting their votes in a by-election when polling booths opened this morning. The Office of the Electoral Commissioner says one thousand four hundred and forty five – 1445 voters are registered in the constituency. The constituency comprise of Fagae’e, Sasina, Letui and Aopo villages.

The candidates are former Speaker La’aulialemalietoa Leuatea Polata’ivao Schmidt running under the new political party, FAST and Fa’aulusau Simi Laulua running as an Independent.

The by election has been called following La’auli’s oral resignation in parliament in July and his subsequent move to register the new political party, Faatuatua ile Atua Samoa ua Tasi – FAST.

The Electoral Commissioner, Faimalōmatumua Matthew Lemisio will announce the provisional results later today and Talamua will bring you updated results as they come in.

Faimalōmatumua says the voting papers and the ballot boxes will be sealed after todays’ provisional count and his office will conduct the final count tomorrow under police supervision. The official result is to be declared after the final count and to be gazetted on Monday.
