APIA: FRIDAY 01 MAY 2015: Vaiee Primary School opened its new school building today during an official handover ceremony at the school premises.

The school was largely funded under Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects which provided a grant of SAT 233,020. All the additional costs were borne by the school itself.

The project included the reconstruction of four new classrooms, a library, a staff room and a computer/science room.

Ambassador of Japan to Samoa Tuimaugaoali’i Kazumasa Shibuta said the new buildings would provide a more comfortable and conducive learning environment for children.

“Japan aligns its assistance according to priorities identified in the Strategy of Development of Samoa which lists educational development as a priority,” he said.

Japan has been working in partnership with the Samoan Government since 1991 to provide funding opportunities for communities at the grassroots level.Vaiee primary school
