The Director General of Health, Leausa Dr Take Naseri said Samoa is waiting for kits from China to test Coronavirus in Samoa

APIA, SAMOA – 06 APRIL 2020: If all works according to plan, Samoa will soon be able to conduct her own tests in Samoa for Coronavirus.
Samoa is among several Pacific Islands earmarked to receive the test kits from the People’s Republic of China, to conduct their own tests locally.
The test kits are much needed now that international borders are closed halting the transportation of samples to be tested in New Zealand in the case of Samoa.
The Director General of Health, Leausa Dr Take Naseri told the Government newspaper Savali that Tahiti is offering a chartered flight to fly in special “cartridges” for three health testing equipment on island already to operate and conduct testing of swaps from local patients. Talamua understands that the equipment already on island is used to test tuberculosis and it needs an different set of cartridges to test the coronavirus.
“I want to assure our people that the test is only to confirm but it does not stop treatment and containment of the virus from spreading,” said Leausa. “We have to do what we have to do and use all the resources available to contain the virus.”
To date, Samoa has no confirmed case of COVID-19.
There are 6 isolation sites to quarantine incoming passengers. These are the LDS Church-Mulifanua, Faleolo Medical Clinic, St Therese Retreat Accommodation-Leauva’a, Moanalisa Hotel – Vaitele, Orator Hotel-Tanumapua and Samoa Traditional Hotel, Ululoloa.
