Samoa transitions fully to digital TV as the Analogue system is turned off

The former Regulator switches on the Digital TV platform with  Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi.


APIA, SAMOA – 01 SEPTEMBER 2020: Samoa has turned off its Terrestrial Analogue TV Broadcast system as of midnight last night and according to the Office of the Regulator, “the entire country will transition fully on to digital TV transmission.”

The Acting Regulator, Perelini Lameko-Masoe says it’s a historical moment inn marching towards digitization of the broadcasting landscape, signifying the end of analogue TV transmission in Samoa that was commissioned in 1993.

“The digital TV transmission provides sharper image, high quality sound and interactive TV services that will spur future economic, social and educational needs of the country and its people,” says the Acting Regulator.

Accessing digital TV transmission requires the viewers to purchase a top box set, antenna and relevant cables.
